The Ballet School....and more, as it is often called, is conveniently located in downtown Bracebridge in the heart of the Muskoka Lakes District. We have just re-located and our newly renovated street level studio is located on the upper main street and boasts wall to wall mirrors and barres and a new Rosco sprung floor.  It is eclectically decorated with hanging costumes and over 30 years of photos and mementos of past and present.  Ample street and nearby parking and the allure of shops and restaurants nearby make it a magical place.

Many parents have exclaimed, "It's often hard to get our children to leave."

The dancers at BSB consider their studio a home away from home.  Its atmosphere is that of a supportive collaboration of students, families and faculty.  Here at BSB we wholeheartedly believe in the "It Takes A Village" philosophy!  Along with our focus on proper technique and artistry, we try to incorporate wherever possible the life lessons vital to a young person's development.

Enrolling Your Youngster for the First Time?

The Dance of Independence

In September, a dance lesson may be the first time children are separated from their parents. The new place and people can be unsettling at first, until the child becomes comfortable.  Come early to look around the studio and acclimatize to the space. Many children take the first few classes to watch or participate minimally. This is normal. Other children may take several weeks to get used to the class. Though your child may feel safer with you in the room, remember that other children may be shy in your presence. We limit the size of our classes to ensure that each student receives proper attention.   An experienced certified instructor and one or two assistants lead every class. We have experience with separation anxiety and associated behaviours and gently deal with such as not to disturb the class. Miss Evelyn has 35 years of experience guiding tiny dancers.  Many of the senior students helping out at the studio today have been with her since they themselves were three years old.

In a short period of time we will have organized the children to trust our teaching assistants to help with their needs. (Changing their dance shoes in the combination classes, washroom breaks, dancewear adjustments etc.) We hope that you will feel you can sit down, relax and have some ‘adult’ time getting to know the other parents while your child blossoms.
