Here at BSB we are proud of our comprehensive Modern Dance program, which has guided many of our graduates to become leaders and innovators in this authentic, highly viable medium and which has set us distinctly at the forefront of modern dance education in Muskoka. Our instructors have devoted their lifetimes to the detailed exploration of this genre, which is ever growing in popularity on the world’s greatest stages. Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis and Martha Graham developed and inspired the modern dance movement in the 20th century. Less firmly bound by predetermined musical form, this interpretive art has a rigid technical foundation incorporating the use of parallel feet, contractions, spirals, varying levels, fall and rebound, weighted movement and high release. The regimen allows each student to display vitality, freedom and enthusiasm in their movement.
We offer a wide range of dance classes for girls and boys from 2 1/2 through adult.
From beginner through advanced and professional.
David Walker is a Toronto based photographer specializing in performance photography. He also cottages in Muskoka and called us out of the blue one day looking for dancers to shoot. Since then we have formed a great relationship and he has photographed many of our students and instructors. The Ballet School is fortunate indeed to have David as a friend.
