Ballet & Pointe

The word ballet comes from the Latin word ballare, which quite simply means, “to dance,” therefore it is the foundation of good training.  This classical style has for over 400 years, evolved a technique and repertoire which provide a wealth of challenge and joy for beginners through to advanced students. Lessons consist of barre work, centre practice, adage and allegro steps culminating with a flourish of patterns en diagonale and autour de la salle. There are thousands of steps in the ever-fascinating ballet vocabulary. Cecchetti and RAD Syllabi are taught at both the recreational and exam levels.

Pointe

Dancing on the toes is undertaken at the Elementary level, when technique is sufficiently strong. Practice follows a set syllabus ensuring each stage is demanding no more of a young body than it can safely cope with.

David Walker is a Toronto based photographer specializing in performance photography. He also cottages in Muskoka and called us out of the blue one day looking for dancers to shoot. Since then we have formed a great relationship and he has photographed many of our students and instructors. The Ballet School is fortunate indeed to have David as a friend.
